UNLIMITED MEDIA PRIVACY & DATA POLICY

This Privacy & Data Policy provides information about how we collect, use and safeguard any personal information you provide to us in order to help you make informed decisions about accessing our media and services.

Whenever you provide us with personal information, we will handle it in accordance with this policy. Our policies comply with relevant UK and EU laws and also aim to employ industry best practice.

This policy relates to CMU, Pathways Into Music, ThisWeek Culture, ThreeWeeks Edinburgh and other websites operated by UnLimited Media. If you have any questions about our privacy policy or the data we collect about you, contact Chris Cooke at chris@unlimitedmedia.co.uk.

We collect information about our users in five main ways:
1. When you opt-in to receive one of our email bulletins.
2. When you purchase premium content.
3. When you purchase a ticket to an event.
4. When you participate in one of our events or research projects.
5. When you use our websites or download a PDF from one of our sites.

Here are more details about what we are doing with that information…

BULLETINS
When you sign up to one of our bulletins you will provide us with at least an email address, and possibly also your name, employer and job title. This information is provided to and stored by one of our mailing-list management providers – which are ConstantContact and Ghost as of January 2024. Only subscribers who opt-in will receive these bulletins. Subscribers can amend their information or unsubscribe at any time by clicking the relevant unsubscribe or update links at the bottom of each bulletin.

PREMIUM CONTENT
When you subscribe to or purchase premium content you will provide an email address, possibly some additional contact information, and credit card information. The email address will only be used to provide the purchased content. The contact information will be used for billing and administrative purposes. The credit card information is not directly held by UnLimited Media as payments are processed by our payment processing provider – Stripe as of January 2024 – which has its own privacy policy.

TICKETS
When you buy a ticket to one of our events you will provide an email address, possibly some additional contact information, and credit card information. The email address will only be used to provide information about the event you are attending and, possibly, future relevant events. The contact information will be used for billing and administrative purposes. The credit card information is not directly held by UnLimited Media as payments are processed by our payment processing provider – Stripe as of January 2024 – which has its own privacy policy.

EVENTS & RESEARCH PROJECTS
You may fill out a form on one of our websites if you take part in one of our events or research projects, or download guides, reports or slides as a PDF. This data will usually be captured via a third party platform such as Google Forms or Typeform. Whenever we gather information in this way we will clearly explain what we will be doing with that information, who will have access to it, and where it will be held.

WEBSITES
Some of our websites utilise ‘cookies’, server logs and tools including Google Analytics and Clicky to collect information about how the site is used. None of this data is associated with you as an individual and is simply used to assess how people interact with our websites in general. For more information about cookies and how you can control them through your browser read our separate Cookies Policy here.

JOURNALIST INFORMATION
In addition to personal information collected through the five channels outlined above, we may also collect information about journalists who we believe could be interested in our work.

This will include each journalist’s name, current employer and areas of expertise. This information may be collected directly from each journalist, via their employer, or via a provider of media contact information.

We only use this information as is necessary for our legitimate interest in communicating with the media. Journalists always have the option to opt-out from receiving these communications by clicking on the ‘unsubscribe’ button at the bottom of any press release received.

Here is some other important information…

THIRD-PARTY LINKS
Our websites may include links to third-party websites, plug-ins and applications. If you click on these links or enable these connections, that may allow those third parties to collect or share data about you. We do not control these third parties and are not responsible for their privacy policies.

THIRD-PARTY PROVIDERS
We make use of various third party providers for mailing list management, form creation and payment processing. As of January 2024 these are Constant Contact, Ghost, Typeform, EmailOctopus and Stripe. These may change, but when choosing providers we will always select companies with high data standards who follow industry best practice.

STORING YOUR INFORMATION
Although most of the information we directly store and process will stay within the UK, some information may be transferred to countries outside the European Economic Area, mainly where one of our providers has servers located in a country outside the EU. Where this happens we will take steps ensure your privacy continues to be protected in line with this policy.

SHARING YOUR INFORMATION
UnLimited Media will not sell or release your personal data to any third party organisations, except where legal requirements obligate us to do so.

ACCESS TO YOUR INFORMATION
You have the right to request a copy of the personal information UnLimited Media holds about you and to have that information amended or removed. Requests for this data should be sent to Chris Cooke at chris@unlimitedmedia.co.uk.
